Post UNFCCC Intersessions : Bangkok

I have not been consistent in my blogging though I have been posting on a regular post on my personal blog. May be it is due to the fact that my mind has been kept busy with a million and zillion things that seem to flow in at the same time.

Well back in the country after following the UNFCCC negotiations I wonder if my role in the climate world needs to be redefined. Though we deem ourselves knowing what happens around us, sometimes been a keen observer of what happens during the negotiations, the lengthy pushing to and fro of the discussions makes one wonder if there would be a worthwhile outcome that one could reach during the sessions in Durban.

Though I have been postponing this analysis, I guess it is time I sit down to write that long promised but never written article on climate change and Sri Lanka. Where do we stand? I mean really? The more I attend these negotiations the more I get confused!

Been a "while"!

It has been quite a while since I posted something on this blog. It was meant to be my official blog, the blog where I would speak of wonderful actions done on climate change and its combat. But then again, unfortunately I seem to have failed in the task of posting something for the last I know what months, being occupied with my personal rants, which ended up enveloping the climatic world actions as well.

Life needs to be different this year I presume, there needs to be more articles that have a serious note to them, articles that people who things into literal interpretation will appreciate than the ones I end up exposing to the world on "vositha's blog".

So let me try to make a change, and on quitting work next week, try to find more time to blog in a much sane manner, to those who have difficulty in dissecting my insane statements, and who would appreciate Vositha for being a person of sense, and not of nonsense.

Pray to God that this statement and resolution be taken seriously and then acted upon, and not turn into one of those resolutions one makes on new year's eve for the deprivation of having something interesting to do, and having to have some change in life.

I have enough change in mine, above all that of the "climate"!

South Asian Youth Summit on Climate Change - SAYSoCC Sri Lanka

The organising process started a few months ago with a few individuals who were motivated enough to contribute. Today the word is spreading and the contribution to the organising is in full swing.
Youth across the South Asian region are showing their interest in being part of the 2nd youth summit of its kind hosted by the Sri Lankan Youth Climate Action Network (SLYCAN). This is a follow up of the summit that took place in Dulikel, Nepal in 2009.
The youth are keen in participating as the event would allow them to share experiences in the field of combating climate change as well as being part of the South Asian Youth Delegation to COP 16.
The closing date for application is the 10th of August while the Sri Lankan youth will be allowed an extended application deadline.
This is a call to those who are interested but have not still applied to join the motivated group of individuals and to be part of an event that is destined to empower youth across the region in voicing their voices and taking action to make a change that counts.

Sri Lanka Youth Climate Action Network - National Summit 2010

The first ever national summit for Sri Lanka Youth Climate Action Network is scheduled to be held on the 2nd of July 2010 at British Council Auditorium in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the work load is getting heavier by the day.
The volunteerism and the climate activism seems to be taking a toll in my life with the 24 hour shifts that I am putting in of late to all the coordination and convincing of people to take part with those motivated on a common venture. Apart from complaining on my personal blog which I have so proudly and shamelessly nicknamed the "complain blog"! I have now moved into bigger dimensions with launching the professional mood into this blog. I am definitely yet to discover all the facilities that is to be handed to me through the generosity of "my professional blog". But I am proud to state that I shall surely master then in due time.

Anyways for those who are interested in participating in the summit here is the shout to join us, and those who are not yet convinced the shout will be repeated with more updates and details. But be assured that the experience would be worth it and that you would leave convinced that there needs to be an individual contribution by each one of us to the world out their for its survival which in return would help us guaranty our own survival.

So let us join hands in making a change!

The Laying of the Foundation

It has been months that I decided to put up a blog. However with the happenings of my daily life taking priority over my contribution to the joint venture of survival I conveniently chose to ignore my duty of creating awareness. However my attendance at the forum Climate Sustainability where I heard experts discussing our vulnerability to the change in the climate and then my discussion with a good friend Sachith who is a climate skeptic woke me up to the need to express myself on the matter. Not in an expert point of view but in a amateur and an observer status where my naivety would not be frowned upon and where I can seek the advice of others and request the others on matters that are alien to me in the most humble manner.

Hence initiates the blogging on Climate Change, The story of Me,You and Us and the struggle for survival in the manner that we may possibly could imagine. Hence the discussion of the increase of heat, the unbearable 34 c in Colombo (of course I am aware of the fact that there are many parts of the world which suffer higher temperature levels, but this drastic change in my town is suffered enough by many and is a demonstration of what is yet to come in larger doses), the seeking for the answer to the questions as to what happens to all the CO2 emitted by the sea water and where is the controlling of this supposed emission (if there is some mechanism happening please enlighten me as I am one very much ignorant of science) and henceforth.

With this blog do I strive to launch the discussion on what awaits us or what many presume awaits us, and what we may take as measures to prevent the disaster that would eventually lead the humankind into peril. Here shall we strive to create awareness and share the valued sharing of knowledge that would lay the first steps of Beginning of Survival!!
